Deir al-Qamar is a picturesque village located in the Chouf district of Lebanon. It was the capital of Mount Lebanon in the 16th century and is known for its historical and cultural significance.
1- Deir al-Qamar Palace: The Deir al-Qamar Palace, also known as the Emir Fakhreddine Palace, is a magnificent example of Lebanese architecture. Built in the 17th century, the palace was the residence of Emir Fakhreddine II, the ruler of Mount Lebanon. 2- Deir al-Qamar Souk: The Deir al-Qamar Souk is a traditional market that dates back to the Ottoman era. 3- Deir al-Qamar Mosque: The Deir al-Qamar Mosque is one of the most important religious sites in the village. Built in the 16th century, the mosque features intricate architectural details, including a beautiful courtyard and a prayer hall with ornate decorations.
4- Lady of the Hill: The Lady of the Hill is a statue located on a hill overlooking Deir al-Qamar. The statue depicts the Virgin Mary and was erected in 1908 to protect the village from harm.
Beiteddine Palace is a magnificent 19th-century palace located in the Chouf Mountains. It was built by Emir Bashir Shihab II, who ruled over Lebanon during the Ottoman Empire. The palace is a masterpiece of Lebanese architecture and features beautiful gardens, courtyards, and fountains. Visitors can explore the palace’s many rooms, such as the stunning Throne Room. The palace also houses the Beiteddine Museum, which features a collection of historical artifacts and art.
1- The Hammam al-Amir: The Hammam al-Amir, also known as the Amir Bathhouse, is a 200-year-old Turkish-style bathhouse located inside Beiteddine Palace. Visitors can admire the intricate marble and tile work and imagine what it was like to bathe in this luxurious setting.
2- The Museum: The Beiteddine Museum is housed in one of the palace’s wings and features a collection of historical artifacts and art. The exhibits include ancient pottery, traditional Lebanese costumes, and Islamic calligraphy.
3- The Palace Gardens: The palace’s gardens are a beautiful and peaceful oasis, with fountains, ponds, and plenty of shady spots to relax. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll through the gardens and enjoy the scent of the many flowers and trees.
4- The Palace Courtyards: The palace’s courtyards are stunning examples of traditional Lebanese architecture, with intricate stonework and beautiful arches. Visitors can admire the courtyards’ many details, including the carved wooden doors and the intricate mosaics.
The Chouf Cedar Reserve is a nature reserve located in the Chouf Mountains of Lebanon. The reserve is home to one of the largest remaining cedar forests in the country, containing over 35,000 cedar trees that are thousands of years old. The reserve is also home to several other species of flora and fauna, including oak trees, wild boars, and the endangered Mount Lebanon Cedar tree.
